Like good health and youth, most people take our locks with
no consideration -- that is, till they are gone. For several people, a hair
transplant will help bring back what looks like a full -- or at least a fuller
-- head of hair.
What Is a Hair
Transplant?
It is a number of surgery that move hair and that already
have thin or no hair to fill a region. Doctors are doing these transplants for
many years, but techniques have modified a lot in recent years.
You usually have the procedure in the doctor's workplace.
First, the surgeon cleans your scalp and injects medicine to numb the rear of
your head. Your doctor will select one of two ways for the transplant:
follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction (FUE). If
you want more information about FUE then visit us at FUE Hair Transplant Center in Bangalore.
With FUSS, the operating surgeon removes a 6- to 10-inch
strip of skin from the rear of your head. He puts it aside and sews off the
scalp. It's hidden by the hair all around.
Next, the surgeon’s team divides the strip of removed scalp
into 500 to 2,000 small grafts, each with a private hair or simply a few hairs.
The number and kind of graft you get depends on your hair type, quality, color,
and also the size of the area where you’re getting the transplant.
If you’re getting the FUE procedure, the surgeon’s team can
shave the rear of your scalp. The doctor can then remove hair follicles from
there one by one. The area heals with small dots that your existing hair can
cover.
After that point, each procedure is similar. When he prepares
the grafts, the operating surgeon cleans and numbs the area where the hair will
go, creates holes or slits with a scalpel or needle, and finely places every
graft in one of the holes. He will probably also receive help with planting
grafts from other team members.
Depending on the size of the transplant you’re getting, the
method can take about four to eight hours. You might need another procedure
later on if you still lose hair or decide you would like thicker hair.
Expectations and
Recovery
After the surgery, your scalp is also very tender. You will
get to take pain medications for many days. Your operating surgeon can have you
wear bandages over your scalp for a minimum of a day or two. He may
additionally prescribe an antibiotic or a medicinal drug for you to take for
many days. Most of the people are ready to return to work 2 to 5 days after the
operation.
Within 2 to 3 weeks once surgery, the transplanted hair can
fall out, but you must begin to note new growth within several months. Most of
the people can see 60 minutes of new hair growth when 6 to 9 months. Some
surgeons impose the hair-growing drug minoxidil (Rogaine) to boost hair growth
after transplantation, but it’s not clear how well it works.
Risks and Costs of
Treatment
The price of a hair transplant can depend mostly on the
number of hair you’re moving; most insurance plans don’t cover it. Like any
kind of surgery, transplants have some risks, including bleeding and infection.
There is also the opportunity for new hair development, which looks scarring
and unnatural.
Around the time new locks start to grow, some people have
inflammation or an infection of the hair follicles, known as folliculitis.
Antibiotics and compresses will relieve the matter. It’s also possible to
suddenly lose a number of the original hair in the area where you bought the
new strands, known as shock loss. But most of the time, it’s not permanent.
Talk with your doctor about these risks and the way much
improvement you’re likely to get from the surgery. He will help you decide if
it is a good choice for you.
